Taps Buying Guide: What To Look For

When buying bathroom taps, there are many factors to consider. These include the design, water pressure, and functionality.

Deciding on a style

Match the size of your bathroom with the tap size. Smaller taps are best for smaller fixtures, while larger taps work well for large fixtures. To ensure that the tap is compatible with your bath or basin, it is important to inspect the tap's spout length.

Basin Mixers

These body styles are ideal for basins that have only one tap hole. There are two options: a basin mixer that has two handles on either side of the monobloc basin mixer, which controls the temperature and flow of water through one lever. This is modern, cleaner, and more user-friendly. The tall mono basin mixer is also available, which can be used to complement any modern bathroom.

Pillar Basin/Bath Taps

These taps can be used in basins and baths that have two tap holes. They supply hot and cold water via separate feeds. These taps are easy to install, cost-effective, and simple. They come with either single lever handles that are suitable for modern bathrooms or traditional cross handle handles for traditional bathrooms. You can choose from a variety of twin basins or twin bath taps in a variety of styles.

Bath Shower Mixer

These taps can also be used in baths with two holes. The single unit can mix hot and cold water, allowing you to adjust the flow and temperature more efficiently. The mixer includes a diverter mechanism that allows you to switch water from the bath filler to divert it into the attached showerhead.

There are many designs to choose from. The showerhead attachment is great for washing your hair and bathing children.

Pull-Out Spray Mixer

The pull-out spray tap looks similar to the shower mixer, but it has an extended pull-out hose. It is ideal for washing dishes and rinsing. You can also find it in our kitchen taps. It's perfect for washing dishes and rinsing them.

Freestanding taps

These taps can be used in bathtubs that do not have tap holes. You can choose from a variety of styles to make these taps the focal point of your bathroom, such as the classic freestanding tap or the modern swan neck freestanding faucet.

Material

Taps can be made of solid brass, making them extremely durable. The taps have a smooth, mirror-like sheen due to the 3 layers of PVD mirror chrome polish. It is also tarnished and corrosion-resistant. The traditional taps are available with ceramic lever handles or cross handles. This is a great choice for classic bathrooms.

Water pressure

Water pressures can vary from one household to another. It is important to verify your water pressure before you purchase any taps. While most taps are fine, some taps like the shower mixers need to be operated at a higher pressure. Your plumber or local water company can help you check your water pressure. You should also check the suitability and fit of the tap before you install it. It's easier to modify the plumbing than to replace it after the taps have been installed.

Ceramic Cartridge

This improves water efficiency. The ceramic cartridge ensures precise control of water flow and temperature. Ceramic cartridges are stronger and more resistant to wear and tear. This helps to prevent erosion, making them less likely to require replacement.

Advice on fittings taps

Two ways to install taps are possible. Mounting taps on your bath or basin is the most common method. The taps can also be mounted behind fixtures for a modern look that will give your bathroom a cleaner and more organized appearance.

It is recommended that you hire a professional plumber to install your tap.

Keep your taps topped off

To maintain the shine of your taps, clean them with a soft cloth and warm soapy water. Avoid using abrasive cleaners as they could cause damage to the surface.

Wastes

The most common wastes are known as 'chain & plugs' or 'pop-up wastes'. They prevent objects from blocking your bathroom plumbing.

It is necessary to slot or unslotted a waste when buying it. This depends on whether the basin has an overflow. An overflow is a small hole in the back of the basin that drains excess water. It's usually located under the tap.

A slotted basin waste is required if the basin has an overflow. Slots are connected to the main waste and help dispose of any overflowing water. If the overflow is not present, it may be necessary to dispose of unslotted waste.

It is still widely used to dispose of traditional plug-and-chain waste.

Make sure to dispose of your waste

This waste type is usually integrated into the tap and can be operated by a small lever located at the back of the tap. To raise the waste plug, push down on the lever.
